How to become an affiliate

There are four simple elements to joining the Worker Rights Consortium as a university affiliate:

  • Provide a letter from the school’s President or Chancellor to the WRC stating the university’s decision to affiliate. Schools are free to use whatever language they deem appropriate, as long as the letter clearly states the institution’s decision to affiliate and its recognition of the three obligations of affiliation: (1) maintaining a manufacturing Code of Conduct, (2) providing the WRC with factory disclosure information, and (3) paying affiliation fees. • Adopt a manufacturing Code of Conduct and work toward the incorporation of this Code into applicable contracts with companies making licensed apparel. Schools can use the WRC model code or a code created by their licensing agent, or can create their own code.
  • Provide the WRC with a list of names and locations of all factories involved in the production of logo goods. Where schools using licensing agents, the WRC can work with those licensing agents to arrange for regular data updates. Universities that manage their licensing programs independently should submit disclosure data to the WRC digitally. Contact Kimberly Capehart at: officemanager@workersrights.org for details.
  • Pay annual affiliation fees to the WRC. The annual affiliation fee is equal to one percent (1%) of your institution’s gross licensing revenue for the last completed fiscal year. The maximum fee is $50,000. The minimum is $1,500.
