Who We Are
Established in 2000, The Worker Rights Consortium (WRC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing labor rights in global supply chains. Guided by an unwavering commitment to workers, we believe holding corporations accountable and enforcing labor protections can strengthen fundamental rights in the garment industry.
We were founded in 2000 by anti-sweatshop student activists and their allies who were committed to eradicating exploitative labor practices within their university’s supply chains. Together with international labor rights experts, activists, and leading universities, the WRC was established, led by the goal of supporting universities with the enforcement of binding labor standards to protect workers producing apparel and other goods bearing university logos.
While the WRC’s historic work centers on assisting colleges and universities with combating labor rights violations at factories producing their logo apparel, the WRC works across the entire garment sector with a diverse set of partners seeking to enforce human rights standards.

Our vision is a world where workers have the power to shape their working conditions, earn a living wage, and organize without fear – while fashion and apparel brands uphold labor rights and transparency across their global supply chains.
Our mission
Our mission is to: document and expose labor rights violations; create and leverage binding legal mechanisms and public accountability; and secure meaningful remedy for workers. Through this work, we are holding corporations accountable for exploitation in their supply chains, advancing the rule of law, and raising the standard for worker rights across the garment industry.
